Protestant Boys, East Belfast Annual Band Parade & Competition - 15/05/2010

Good long parade, good long route, good crowds and of course bands from all over the country. What else could you ask for?

A big mention must go to the YCV band who travelled over from Liverpool. They not only walked our parade but also played in our disco after. Thanks lads from your friends in the Protestant Boys East Belfast.

Tonight the parade started in the old budget car park, against the wishes of the band might i add. For me this decision, made by the local PSNI, did not help us get the parade started early which we planned to for the attending familys. People were so used to the parade starting at Connswater street so it caused a bit of confusion. This will be addressed next year

The parade was led by the Whiterock Flute Band, Shankill Road. Many thanks lads, your style is admired by all. We aimed for an early start as sometimes nights can go on a bit late for familys. Good crowds lined the route for the ?? bands in attendance. A good turnout considering our day clashed with the North West and the FA cup. Some bands tonight were smaller in numbers than usual because of this but a big thanks to all for turning up to support us.

Below is a selection of clips of the bands in action. PART 1 - PART 2 - PART 3 - PART 4 - PART 5

The parade made its way around the traditional route with many great bands putting on some great displays. the UVF Regimental always looked the part as did Skeough FB for their first time at our parade and hopefully not the last. It was good also to see the Somme Memorial from Bangor and indeed a local band the Blues and Royals. The Mighty Raven were going very well tonight as were the Mourne Young Defenders who attended with over 30 flautists. I must mention the Ballybeen band, the YCV uniform suits you and i hope things are improving for the band.

Goldsprings going well also tonight as were the black magic band from Portavogie, the RHD. Great to see them up in the East. Ballyhalbert were also in good tune when i seen them. Our parade gives many bands a chance to play a good tune list and i must say many tunes i heard tonight lifted the gloom of the rain coming on and of.

Good to see the Rasharkin band up aswell as the Ballykeel band along with out friends in Lagan Valley. Some vastly improved bands on show including the Whitewell Defenders, Shankill star, YCV Shankill and the SOU Shankill all bringing a good show from the West of the city.

The Tigers from Ardboe on show aswell. Brilliant to see the Lord Carson enjoying themselves. Some other bands on show tonight were the Pride of the Hill Carnmoney, Clogher Protestant Boys, Drumderg, KVFB, Sons of Kai, Gertrude star and Downshire with some of the larger B&T bands putting on a great show. The length of our route gets the bands warmed up for the Newtownards road which promises a good reception and plenty of volume. Everyone was in good spirits on the road even with the rain.

Thanks to all the familys, bands and everyone who came out to support us. Next year we hope to do it all again, if not better.
